국문 초록

본 연구는 한국에 정착한 북한이탈주민 중 북한에서 교사를 한 경험이 있는 이들과의 집담회를 통해 북한의 각급학교교육이 북한사회에서 어떠한 의미를 지니는지를 분석한 것이 다. 연구 결과 북한 학교교육에서도 가장 중요한 목표는 ‘대학’ 진학이며 이에 대한 욕구는 갈수록 커지고 있다. ‘대학’은 전문적 직업을 얻기 위해서나 당 ‘간부’가 되기 위해 필수적으로 요구되는 조건으로 간주된다. 사적 경제가 확대되는 북한 사회에서 유치원 단계에서부터 작용하는 학교교육에 대한 계층의 영향력이 의무교육으로서의 학교교육 특성을 변형시키는 주요인으로 작용하고 있다. 교육에서의 경쟁은 대학 진학까지이고 북한에서 대학 교육은 종결 교육으로서의 의미를 지닌다. 극소수에 한해서 박사원 교육이 이루어지고 대학 교원들도 대부분 준박사 학위를 지니고 있어 지방대학의 경우 학부에 1명 정도 있는 박사는 해당 분야의 ‘최고’ 전문가로 이해된다. 전체적으로 북한 학교교육은 점차 ‘사적 소유’의 영역으로 변화하고 있으며 학교교육에서 공적인 제도보다 ‘돈’의 영향력이 더욱 크게 작동하고 있다.

영문 초록

This research analyzed the meanings of the North Korean school education that members of the society, especially teachers in North Korea attach. A conference participated by 6 North Korean teachers was conducted. The North Korean refugees who had teacher careers in North Korea for this conference selected considering the educational stages, regions, and genders for this conference. In the school education of North Korea, going to ‘university’ is also considered as the most important objective and the desire to go to university is getting stronger. ‘University’ is considered as prerequisites to gain professional occupations or to become ‘executives’ in the party. Private economy sector and social class effect on school education are being expanded in North Korea. This is evaluated to be the main cause changing the characteristics of compulsory school education. In North Korea, university education is recognized as terminal education. Only a few receive postgraduate education and most of university faculties have para-doctor’s(master) degree. In local universities, there is only one doctor in the college and they are recognized as the ‘top’ experts in the field. Overall, the North Korean school education is gradually changing to the realm of private property and marketization is in progress in compulsory school education.
