국문 초록

최근 몇 년 사이 광장댄스는 중국 도시 주민의 일상생활 속에서 아주 익숙한 광경이 되었고, 2013년 이래로는 학계의 연구자들로부터 주목을 받아 왔다. 기존의 연구 대상들은 여성, 특히 중년층, 노년층 여성에 집중되어 있으며, 광장댄스의 젊은 참여자, 특히 남성에게 초점을 맞춘 연구는 여전히 부족한 상태다. 이는 광장댄스에 참여한 이들 중 젊은이들과 남성들도 있다는 사실을 은폐해 버리고 만다. 필자는 2015년 11월의 관찰과 참여 이외에 2016년의 관찰과 두 차례의 심층 인터뷰를 통해 청년층 위주로 구성된 광장댄스 팀에 대한 현장조사를 진행한 바 있다. 본고는 “그들은 왜 광장댄스를 추는가?”, “광장댄스는 그들에게 어떤 의미를 갖는가?” 등에 대한 문제의식으로부터 출발하여, 우선 이 광장댄스 팀의 광장댄스 활동과 구성, 메커니즘을 기술하고, 다음으로 청년층 중에서도 남성 팀원의 사회심리 메커니즘을 분석하였다. 덧붙여 공간 위치, 음악, 사운드, 현재 상황, 위기 등의 측면으로부터 이 집단에 대해서도 함께 고찰해 보았다.

영문 초록

In recent years, square dancing has become a common daily sight for Chinese urban residents, and it has been attracting attention from the academic world since 2013. Existing studies have targeted women, particularly middle-aged and older women; however, there is still a lack of research on the younger participants of square dancing, especially for males. This hides the fact that among those who take part in square dancing, there are also young men and male dancers. In addition to observation and participation carried out in November 2015, I have conducted two in-depth interviews on top of an observation held in 2016, as part of an on-site survey focusing on a square dancing team made up of mostly youths. This paper starts by prompting critical thinking, “Why do they participate in square dancing?” and “What does square dancing mean to them?” It first covers the square dancing activities, make-up and mechanism of the square dancing team, and then goes on to analyze the social psychological mechanism of male team members among youth participants. Research was also conducted on this group of youths with regard to space and location, music, sound, their current situation, and the crisis they face.
