호남지역 구석기시대 망치돌연구 -MIS 3〜MIS 2 시기 유적을 중심으로-

국문 초록

본 연구는 구석기시대 기후변화에 적응하며 나타난 석기문화를 망치돌의 변화양상을 통해 확인하고자 하였 다. 이를 위해 유적에서 출토되는 망치돌의 형태와 공반되는 유물, 제작도구, 석기제작기술의 변화를 통하여 망치돌의 시기적 변화과정을 추정하였다. 이러한 연구를 통해 몇 가지 결론을 내릴 수 있었다. 망치돌은 시기별 형태변화를 보인다. 망치돌의 형태는 타원형의 망치돌에서 원형의 형태로 변화하는 양상이 확인되며, 크기는 점점 작아지는 특징을 보인다. 망치돌의 사용기술은 시기별로 큰 변화를 보이지 않는다. 망치돌의 사용면의 분석 결과 구석기시대 동안 망치돌의 사용면은 크게 변화하지 않는다. 그리고 모룻돌과 공반되어 확인되는 망치돌의 사용면은 공반하지 않은 유적과 비교하였을 때 차이를 보이지 않은 것으로 보아 모룻돌을 사용하는 제작기술에서도 망치돌의 사용기술은 변화하지 않는 것으로 판단된다. 망치돌은 MIS 2시기에 접어들어 사슴뿔이나 뼈 등의 연질계의 망치를 사용한 간접타격법의 사용과 눌러떼기 기술 등의 도입으로 감소하는 변화가 관찰된다. 이를 통해 보았을 때 호남지역 구석기시대 석기제작 기술의 발전은 단순한 기술진화가 아닌 환경, 식량자원 등으로 인한 장기간에 걸친 진화의 흐름으로 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to identify stone tool culture which was affected by climate change in the Paleolithic age by researching aspect of change of hammer stone. This research looks at the chronological change of hammer stone through examination of the stone in sites, associated artifacts, tool kit, and transition of technique of making tools. The anticipated outcome of this study is as following; First of all, hammer stones have time-periodic characteristic, and they seemed to have changed to be a shape of circles and their size was likely to be getting smaller. Second, it is found out that there was not remarkable change of the technique of using hammer stone, and that the side of the hammer stone which was mainly used did not vary during Paleolithic age. There is no difference in the usable area of a hammer stone in the site where both Anvil was found and not found. Judging from this, the technique of using a hammer stone had not been changed a lot even when there was technique to make Anvil. Third, there is an observable change that the use of a hammer stone gradually decreased because of the introduction of pressure technique which is the arts of making blade and microlithic, and change of tools such as deer horn and bones. Development of making stone tools in Paleolithic age in Honam province can’t be regarded as just an unilinear technique improvement but as an evolution by the environment and food resource for a long gap of time. This research covers the change of hammer stone as a making tool and stone tool culture according to climate change in Paleolithic age in Honam province. Study on hammer stone have not been conducted a lot so far. But this research highlights various change of hammer stone by transition of the stone tool culture. We hope there will
