중년여성 한부모의 성역할갈등과 외상 후 성장 경험에 대한 질적 연구

국문 초록

이 연구는 중년여성 한부모의 적응과 관련하여 그들의 잠재력과 긍정성을 발견하는 데 있다. 이러한 연구 목적을 위하여 내면화된 성역할이 자신 혹은 자신을 둘러싼 타인에게 부정적인 영향을 주는 심리적 상태인 성역할갈등 이론을 토대로, 성역할 내면화와 외상 후 성장 경험을 중년여성 한부모의 내러티브를 통해 이해하고자 하였다. 연구 참여자는 40세 이후에 배우자와 사별 또는 이혼한 뒤 2년 이상 경과하였고 한 명 이상의 자녀와 함께 생활하고 있으며 재혼하지 않은 40대-50대 중년여성 한부모 8명이었다. 이들의 심층면담 자료를 분석한 결과, 중년여성 한부모의 성역할 내면화와 외상 후 성장의 내러티브는‘견뎌내기 - 장벽을 너머서 - 삶의 주체가 되기’의 과정으로 구성되었다. 이것은‘소외의 시간을 지나서 삶의 의미 찾아가기’의 경험으로, 가부장적 가족제도 안에서 타인을 우선 돌보는 책임을 여성의 성역할로 내면화한 채 수동적으로 견뎌내지만 점차 성역할 기대에 대한 불편함을 깨닫는 시간을 지나서 지금-여기에서 참된 자기가 되어가는 과정인 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 참여자들의 성역할 내면화와 외상 후 성장의 경험에서 나타난 의미 찾아가기의 공통점을 통합하여‘주체 안에서 타자로 살아옴’,‘돌봄의 버거움을 인식함’,‘문제는 모두 내 잘못이라는 신화에서 깨어나기’,‘관계를 방해하는 힘과 마주침’,‘삶에 대한 책임감’,‘관계 돌봄을 재정의함’,‘내가 있는 내 삶과 만남’이라는 주제를 도출하였다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 돌봄의 의미, 관계의 의미, 자기(self)의 의미의 측면에서 상담적인 시각에서 논의하고 후속 연구를 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to multi-dimensionally find the positive and potential of middle-aged female single parents, with regard to their adaptations. The purpose of this study was to comprehend the internalization of gender roles and post-traumatic growth experience through the narratives of middle-aged female single parents based on the theory of gender role conflict, which discusses a psychological conditions where the internalized gender role negatively affects themselves or other people around them. For the analysis of qualitative research, data from middle-aged female single parents in 40s-50s were used, who have lived with one or more children and were divorced or bereaved more than 2 years ago, when they were over 40. As a result of analyzing the data from in-depth interviews with the research participants, the narratives of middle-aged female single parents on the internalization of gender roles and post-traumatic growth consisted of ‘withstanding-standing behind the barrier-being the subject of life’ processes. This was the experience of‘visiting the meaning of life beyond the time of alienation’, and turned out to be a process to become a true self here and now beyond the time of gradually realizing the inconvenience of the expectation of gender role, regardless of the passive endurance along with the internalization of the responsibility of taking care of other family members as a female gender roles in the system of patriarchal family system. In addition, by integrating the commonalities of finding the meanings appeared in the internalization of gender roles and post-traumatic growth experience of the participants, the following subjects were derived such as ‘living like other person in the subject’, ‘recognizing the burden of care’, ‘waking up from the myth of it is all my fault’, ‘facing the force that is disturbing relationships’, ‘responsibility for life’, ‘redefining what is a caring relationship’, and ‘meeting my life where I exist’. Given the result of this study, the meaning of caring, relationship, and self was discussed in terms of counselling, and a follow-up study was presented.
