국문 초록

본고의 목적은 2016년 하반기에 벌어진 ‘신경숙 표절 논란’과 문학권력 논쟁의 실태를 신경숙의 작품을 통해 비판적으로 점검하는 데 있다. 표절 논란과 문학권력 논쟁의 과정에서 극적으로 드러난 한국 평단의 혼란스런 지적 상황을 조감하면서 신경숙의 작품, 특히 ｢전설｣과 ｢모여 있는 불빛｣, ｢외딴방｣을 구체적으로 읽어봄으로써 표절 혐의의 실태를 파악하는 것이 주안점이다. 그로써 한 작가의 표절 여부는 혐의에 걸린 개별 작품에 관한 온당한 비평이 개입하지 않고서는 제대로 판단할 수 없다는 점을 확인하는 동시에, 오늘날 한국문학의 건강한 발전을 위한 비평적 성찰이 절실히 요청된다는 점을 역설한다.

영문 초록

This article purports to scrutinize the central aspect of the controversy on Shin Kyung-sook’s alleged plagiarism that has been vehemently argued during the latter half of 2016. Along with the critical survey of the disarrayed intellectual conditions that have dramatically surfaced in the course of the controversy, this paper stresses the importance of literary evaluation of the text per se, in particular, “The Legend,” “The Gathered Light,” and The Solitary Room in an attempt to clarify to what extent the charge on Shin’s assumed plagiarism is to be justified. In this process, this article vindicates that the charge on her plagiarism will not be confirmed without wholesome rigorous reading of the allegedly plagiarized text. In the same breath, this paper claims that the disinterested critical reflection of our literary discipline is desperately needed if we pursue the healthy development of Korean literature.
