국문 초록

평북 의주 출신의 유학자인 조병준은 1910년 경술국치를 당하여 서간도로 망명한다. 서간도 항일투쟁의 중핵으로 활동하다가 1923년 가족과 친지, 제자 등 80여 명을 인솔하여 내몽고로 향한다. 수원성 포두현에 배달농장을 세우고 임시정부를 후원하니, 그가 일군 한인촌은 내몽고 항일운동의 거점이 되었다. 일제의 대륙침략과 더불어 한인촌은 해체 위기에 놓였다. 떠나지 않고 남아있던 한인들도 광복을 맞아 환국했다. 그러나 조병준의 아우 조병섭의 집안은 우환이 있어 움직일 수 없었다. 그러다가 한국전쟁이 터지고 남북분단이 고착되었다. 환국의 타이밍을 잡지 못한 이 가족은 결국 4대째 그곳에 발이 묶이고 말았다. 이 글은 내몽고자치구 포두에서 만난 조병섭의 증손 조립신 씨와의 인터뷰를 바탕으로 그의 존재론적 좌표를 더듬는다. 한족에 이어 몽고족이 대다수인 그 지역에서 유일한 ‘조선족’으로 살아가는, 자신의 ‘거기-있음’ 을 설명할 언어가 부재한 그의 비극적 상황이 이 글을 쓰게 된 주요 동기다. 그곳에 홀로 낙오된 채 조상의 역사와 조국의 관심으로부터 유리된 그의 실존은 ‘벌거벗은 생명’의 한 유형을 보여준다.

영문 초록

Byeong-jun Cho, the Confucian scholar born in Uiju, Pyeonanbukdo province, went to West-Gando near the Korean border as an exile after the annexation in 1910. He moved to Neimenggu(inner Mongolia) with his family, relatives and followers in 1923 when he resigned at the age of 61 as a leader of an anti-Japanese nationalist group in Manchuria. He started to build up the Baedal Farm at Baotou in Neimenggu and supported the Republic of Korea provisional government in its demand for maintaining fund. The Baedal Farm was came to break up due to the Japanese invasion in 1937. Many Koreans returned peri passu with the Liberation in 1945 except the family of Byeong-sup Cho, the younger brother of Byeong-jun Cho. As time goes by, it was getting difficult to catch the right chance to return to Korea because of the Korean War and the division between the North and the South, so that this family was fixed in that strange land for the 4th generations. This article deals with the ontological position of Lip-sin Cho who is a great-grandchild of Byeong-sup Cho and still lives in Baotou. His tragic situation existing alone as 'Chosun jok' there and not-having the memory to explain why he lives 'there not here' challenged the author to write this article. His existence reveals 'the naked life' removing from the homeland's history.
