영문 초록

The present paper claims that the various types of long-distance binding phenomena of reflexives may be explained in terms of the feature-checking theory under Chomsky’s(1992) minimalist theory. As a result from this study, it comes to light that all kinds of Korean reflexives are analyzed as DP rather than NP, hence taking the internal structure of complex reflexives and consisting of a pronominal element, overtly or covertly realized, and a reflexive element, as analogous to English reflexives: for example, him+self. Based on this observation, it is argued that the differences in the long-distance binding among Korean reflexives follow from their different types of LF movement determined for their feature-checking by the economical way: X⁰-movement and XP-movement, and that the analysis of emphatic reflexive explains why XP-reflexives in Korean, unlike in English, also reveal the long-distance binding property in some relevant cases, contrary to Pica’s(1987) prediction.
