영문 초록

This paper is to demonstrate that John Calvin contructs his doctrine of justification in light of union with Christ. Its theological ramification is that for Calvin union with Christ is not merely an aspect of ordo salutis but a theological framework by which he explicates the doctrine. As a methodology union with Christ connects ordo salutis and historia salutis, that is, soteriology and christology. Consequently, the work of Christ and the benefits of Christ's work are not separated. In other words all the aspects of Christ's redemptive historical work are to be conceived in the realm of union with Christ. Thus, justification and sanctification are not two separate fruits of salvation that appear in the order of time but twin benefits to be enjoyed in union with Christ. The practical implication of that is there is no such thing that one is justified but not sanctified. According to the findings of this paper, antinomianism cannot be justified in the theology of John Calvin. To prove the thesis of the paper, this paper will demonstrate how for Calvin union with Christ serves as the theological framework for justification. Upon that the paper will explicate the theological meaning, that is, redemptivehistorical meaning, of Christ's righteousness and explain the relationship between justification and sanctification. In particular, for practical implications this paper will try to make relevance and suggestions as needed under author's discretion. This paper will show that the problem of Korean church is not that she has failed in teaching sanctification but her teaching of justification has flawed at first not paying close attention to Calvin's doctrine of justification, though she claims to be an heir of Calvin.
