교육과정 문서에 나타난 국제교육의 관점과 개념 분석

국문 초록

교육환경의 국제화에 따른 교육과정학적 대응에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있는 가운데, 이 연구는 실제 국제교육 관련 교육과정 문서가 이러한 관심을 어떻게 반영하고 있는지 살펴본 것이다. 이를 위해 영국 국가교육과정 중에서 국제교육 지침을 선정하여, 여기에 나타난 국제교육의 개념적 특징을 파악해 보았다. 연구방법에 있어서는 선정된 텍스트에서 문장단위별로 동시발생 빈도가 높은 핵심 개념을 추출하고, 이 개념들 간의 의미연결망(semantic network)을 도출하여 그 특징을 해석해보았다. 이 과정에서 ① 선정된 교육과정 문서는 어떠한 핵심 개념을 중심으로 작성되어 있으며 어떠한 의미연결망을 구성하는가, ② 문서에 나타난 핵심 개념과 의미연결망은 어떤 관점에 기초하고 있는가, ③ 한국에서의 국제교육에 시사하는 바는 무엇인가에 대해 살펴보았다. 분석결과 선정된 교육과정은 국제경쟁력을 강조하는 도구주의적 관점보다는 다문화 글로벌 관점과 국제이해교육의 핵심 어휘들로 이루어져 있었다. 본고는 이러한 분석에 기초하여 향후 한국에서의 국제교육은 빈곤, 기아, 환경 문제에 대해 책임감을 느끼는 세계시민교육의 관점을 중시하고 지식교육 일변도보다는 가치교육과 참여교육이 균형적으로 고려되는 교육과정이 필요하다고 제언하였다

영문 초록

In recent years, facing the emergence of globalized educational environment, this article examines how the national curriculum standards for international education foster the awareness of the world and its people. The purpose of the paper was to investigate the way that concepts of international education and vocabularies of global citizenship are reflected in a selected document from the UK. Semantic network analysis as a method of contents analysis is used to explore (a) what words frequently appear in the selected documents as major concepts and how these words are associated each other in terms of sematic network, (b) what political perspectives and educational values are found in the curriculum documents, and (c) what implications can be drawn to promote global citizenship education in Korea. The selected text is likely to emphasize educational role for teaching universal human rights and global citizenship through engagement with global responsibilities for poverty, sustainable development, peace, side effects of globalization etc. In the selected school curriculum, I drew some lessons from the concepts of responsible global citizenship that appear to be more congruent with active and democratic perspectives rather than dealing with global education as preparation for effective global competition.
