점토의 미술치료 활용에 관한 이론적 고찰

국문 초록

전 세계에 산재된 여러 창조 신화에서 인간은 점토로 만들어졌다고 되어 있다. 수메르의 길가메시 서사시에서는 신이 대지의 사 방위로부터 모은 서로 다른 흙으로 인류를 창조했다고 하였고, 폴리네시아와 이집트의 신화에서는 흙으로 구성된 땅과 하늘이 하나로 융합된 상태에서 영웅신이 나타나 이 둘을 분리시키는 내용이 나온다. 하늘을 보완하는 우주적 존재로 상징되는 대지는 흙으로 구성되어 있고, 이 흙은 다산과 무한한 창조력을 상징하고있다. 풍요와 성장의 근원이며 정신적 재생을 경험하지 못한 원초적 인간인 흙은 수정의 힘을 갖고 있는 물에 의해 수태가 가능한 점토로 변환된다. 생명과 생산의 상징인 물과 흙의 결합으로 구성된 점토는 다양한 형상을 배태하고 있는형이상학적 질료이며, 근대적 사유의 빈곤을 보완할 수 있는 무한한 상상 그 자체이다. 점토에 내재된 무한한 상상과 근원적 요소는 인류사에서 정신적 사유로서의 점토와 실용적질료로서의 점토를 용이하게 발견하게 되는 요인이다.본 논문은 점토가 갖는 철학적, 문화사적 의미를 고찰하고, 이를 토대로 근원적 질료로서의 점토가 갖는 치유적 기능을 규명한다. 또한 미술치료 현장에서 활용되는 점토가 단순한재료의 차원을 초월한 근원적이며, 무한한 상상력을 내포한 질료라는 것을 증명하고, 이것의 임상적 활용이 갖는 의의를 정립하는데 목적이 있다.

영문 초록

In many of creation mythologies across the world man was first made from clay. The Sumerian epic of Gilamesh contains that gods created men with soil separately gathered from the different areas of cardinal directions over the land, where Polynesian and Egyptian myths share similar story of heroic gods dividing the land of soil and the sky that were in one beforehand. The land is a symbol of cosmic matter complementing the sky. It consists of soil, and the soil symbolizes fecundity and unlimited productivity. As a base for prosperity and growth, the soil is a man ignorant of mental regeneration, and with the power of change held in water the soil is converted into clay and is given an ability of fertilization. Clay is thus a combination of water and soil, the life and the production, and it is a metaphysical substance which bores various forms within; an infinite imagination that would complete the poverty in modern thoughts. Such infinite imagination and fundamental elements stored in clay are the reason that makes it useful in human history, both in terms of spiritual thought and of practical substance. The present study contemplates philosophical and cultural meanings of clay, based on which it examines the healing power of clay as the fundamental substance. In addition, it is purposed to prove that clay used in art therapy practices is more than a simple substance but a fundamental matter that implies unlimited imagination, and to establish the meaning of its clinical usage.
