국문 초록

모계사회에서 발전된 출생 풍습은 주술적, 의례적인 면을 보존하고 있다. 출생에 관한 모든 의례들은 삼라만상의 균형적이고 안정된 보호와 출생의 경이로움, 그리고 새로 태어난 아기의 운명과 삶을 예언하고 또한 가족이나 공동체를 이롭게 한다는 목적을 갖고 있다. 출생에 있어서 미래예언과 출생이 갖는 시작의 주술적 의례들은 예언과 분리, 통과와 공동체 생활로의 통합의 의례를 포함한다. 예언은 아이의 미래에 관한 것이고 분리는 나쁜 악령이 아이로 부터 떨어지게 한다는 목적을 갖고 있다. 인생의 첫 번째 단계이며 존재의 시작인 출생은 악을 예방하는 여러 가지 주술적 의례들로 특징지어진다. 이 의례들은 대부분 치료효과를 갖는 것으로 비정상적인 상태에서 만들어진 저주의 표시인 병을 없애는 목적을 갖고 있다. 이 의례는 보통 아이의 이름을 바꾸거나 태어날 때 아이의 이름을 동물 이름으로 지었다가 나중에 정식 이름을 주는 것으로 이루어진다. 또한 병든 아이는 건강한 아 이로 다시 태어나게 하는 의례를 거행하기도 한다. 이름은 원시시대부터 생명부분이라고 간주되었다.

영문 초록

The customs of birth based on a matrilineal society still keep the aspects of rite and incantation. All rites related with birth predict the new infant's life and fate, the wonder of childbirth, the stabilized and well-balanced protection of all nature, and at the same time they have the intention of being good for the family or the social community. The prediction at the childbirth and the incantatory rituals which have the significance of childbirth as a beginning include all kinds of rites for the prediction, the separation, the passage and the unification in the life of community. The prediction relates to the child's future and the object of the separation shall be protect a child from evil spirits. Being a first step of the life and the beginning of existence, the birth is characterized as some incantatory rituals which prevent evil. These rituals have the purpose of the remedial value and also intend to cure the disease arising out of the abnormal state as an indication of the curse. The representative of these rituals is accomplished through christening(naming). The child is generally given an official name lately after some steps as the changing of name or the borrowing of assumed name like animal's name an ailing child is born again as a healthy child. The name is considered a part of the early life from the primitive age.
