국문 초록

이 논문은 프랑스 학부모 학교교육 참여의 배경과 실제를 역사적, 사회문화적 맥락 속에서 고찰함으로써 한국사회에서의 학부모 참여에 대한 시사점을 도출하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 일부 엘리트계층에 의해서만 향유되던 교육권을 모든 시민에게 부여하려는 근대 시민사회이상에 기초하여 성장해 온 프랑스 공교육의 장에서 학부모 참여는 시민으로서의 지위와 역할의 연장선에서 이루어지고 있다. 또한 학부모의 학교참여는 그 자체로 평생학습의 일부가 되기도 한다. 이처럼 학부모들은 학교교육의 실질적인 운영 주체로 그 지위와 역할이 자리매김 되고 있다. 이러한 프랑스 사회에서 학부모의 학교 참여는 자녀교육을 공동 책임지는 동반자로서 역할과 기능을 담당하면서 효율적인 ‘자녀학업성취’와 ‘교육공동체 형성’을 위해 교사-학부모, 학교-가정이 때론 갈등하고 협력하면서 이루어지고 있음을 드러내 주고 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to examine parent participation in their children's school education in France, by locating it in a historical, social, cultural context. It also discusses some implications in terms of the direction and methods of parent participation for Korean society. In France, public education has developed in the direction to give educational opportunity to all people that once had been monopolized by the nobility. In this context, parent participation has been considered an extension of social activity as a citizen, and parents have played a significant and substantial role as full partners in their children’s education at school. And, it becomes the part of life-long learning for parents. Parent participation is both encouraged by educational authority and is reinforced by self-empowerment of the parents as they position themselves as subjects of education. Implications of France's case for Korean society are as follows. In order to constitute effective and desirable parent-school-community partnerships, it is necessary to have an institutional environment in which each school has the right of self-government. We need to develop an ecological model of home, school, and community partnerships.
