영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to ascertain the meaning of quality of for persons living with Diabetes Mellitus. Parse's Human Becoming methodology was the nursing perspective for this study. This article presents the application of man-living-health in practice with one woman over a period of time. Nursing, when guided by the man-living-health theory is living a true presence with another. The goal in practice is to enhance the quality of life as perceived by the person. The nurse journeys with the person in meaning, rhythmical co-creations, and co-transcending patterns in a negentropic unfolding. Mrs. Ahn shared meaning and significance as she struggled over a period of time in her life situation to live her goals to go home, to be better than she was, and to take the risk of reaching out to valued others. Her quality of life was enhanced as reflected in her statement of being "better" and moving closer to valued others. She still struggled with fear and sadness, but ger moving beyond to possibles continued to unfold and Mrs Ahn credited the nurse with expanding her horizons. The findings from this study begin to build a substantive human science knowledge base about quality of life. The knowledge connected to the human becoming theory offers nurses a broader base from which to guide their practice. Further research on quality of life from the human becoming perspective is necessary since the goal of nursing from this view is quality of life.
