표면의 사건과 기억: ‘피부자아’로 읽는 최승자 시 연구 - 『이 時代의 사랑』(1981)을 대상으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 최승자의 첫 시집 『이 時代의 사랑』(1981)에 나타나는 ‘피부’ 이미지를 매개로 시적 자아의 경계가 ‘접촉-차단-기록’의 감각적 연쇄 속에서 어떻게 형성·변형·축적되는지를 밝히는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 디디에 앙지외의 ‘피부자아(Skin-Ego)’ 개념을 이론적 틀로 삼아, 시집 수록 작품에서 반복되는 어휘와 장면을 ‘이미지-어휘 계열’로 분류하였다. 본 논의는 화자의 피부 표면에 남는 촉각적 사건과 그 흔적의 축적 방식에 주목하여, 감각의 작동 원리가 자아-경계의 재배치를 어떻게 유도하는지 단계적으로 추적하였다. 분석은 통각의 표면(접촉의 문법)-냉각의 경계(차단의 문법)-흉터의 기억(기록의 문법)으로 전개하였고, 각 장에서 유리/창, 물/비, 문신/흔적, 목구멍/늑골 등 표면 장치와 접촉 지점이 피부자아의 경계를 흔들고 재구획하는 양상을 면밀히 확인하였다. 그 결과, 최승자의 시에서 따뜻한 포개짐은 곧 찔림과 절단으로 전도되고, 차가움의 싸개는 접촉 회로를 정지시키며, 반복된 통증은 흉터로 고정되어 현재의 나를 과거의 감각에 이어 놓는 것으로 드러났다. 최승자 시의 자아 경계는 온전한 통합이라기보다 상처의 기억으로 유지되는 비극적 연속성에 가깝다. 이처럼 본 연구는 피부 감각과 표면 장치가 빚는 문법을 통해 최승자 시의 미적 특이성을 구체화하고, 감각 기반 독해의 지평을 확장하는 데 기여하고자 하였다.

영문 초록

This study examines Choi Seung-ja’s debut collection, Love in this Age (1981), to clarify how the boundary of the poetic self is formed, reshaped, and accumulated within a sensory sequence of contact-blockade-inscription mediated by the figure of the “skin.” Adopting Didier Anzieu’s concept of the skin-ego as its theoretical framework, the analysis classifies recurrent lexemes and scenes throughout the collection into an image-lexical series. Attending to the tactile events inscribed on the speaker’s skin surface and to the ways in which their traces accrue, this study investigates how the operations of sensation guide successive reconfigurations of the self-boundary. The argument proceeds along three axes－“the surface of nociception (the grammar of contact),” “the boundary of cooling (the grammar of blockade),” and “the memory of scars (the grammar of inscription).” In each chapter, surface devices (glass/window, water/rain, and tattoo/trace) and loci of contact (throat and ribs) are shown to unsettle and repartition the skin-ego’s boundary. In Choi’s poems, warm overlay swiftly flips into pricking and cutting; the “cold envelope” freezes circuits of contact; and repeated pain hardens into scars that tether the present self to past sensations. The boundary of the emerging self is less an integral unity than a tragic continuity maintained by the memory of wounds. By articulating a poetics of sensation through the interplay between skin-based perception and surface devices, this study concretizes the aesthetic singularity of Choi Seung-ja’s early poetry and broadens the horizon of sensory-based interpretation.
