국문 초록
In this article, I first overview the impact that the rapid development of IT and AI has on various sectors of society and then analyse how AI technology can be applied to the decipherment and restoration of ancient written materials, especially wooden tablets.
AI has attracted attention as a technology that opens up possibilities for generating new interpretations based on the reconstruction of characters and pattern analysis. Thus, various research projects have been proposed for scientific research programmes in Japan. Examples include research aiming to restore damaged documents using the image recognition and text generation functions of AI, and research projects applying deep learning methods to handwritten characters in order to analyse their characteristics.
Therefore, the present study seeks to distinguish it from those mentioned above. More specifically, I point out the effectiveness of an indirect approach that not only achieves the direct recognition of undeciphered characters but also supplements them based on their relationship with already deciphered characters. In future research, I hope that the AI analysis will be advanced in combination with contemporary international sources.
영문 초록
本稿は、ITとAIの急速な発展が社会各分野にもたらす影響を概観した上で、特にAI技術が古代文字史料、なかでも木簡の解読や修復にどのように応用させられるかを考察するものである。 AIは文字の欠損補完やパターン分析により新たな解釈の可能性を開く技術として注目されており、日本国内の科研事業でも様々な研究が申請されている。たとえば、画像認識や文字生成AIを用いて劣化した文書の修復を目指す研究や、手跡文字の特徴を深層学習で分析するプロジェクトなどが挙げられる。 よって筆者は、上記のような研究とは差別化を行ない、未判読文字を直接認識させるだけでなく、判読済み文字との関係性から補完するという間接的アプローチの有効性を指摘し、将来的には同時代の国際的史料の併用によるAI解析の高度化にも期待を寄せている。
