구글 트렌드를 통한 일본인의 독도 이슈 관심 변화 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 구글 트렌드 데이터를 활용하여 독도 문제에 대한 일본인의 인식과 한국에 대한 일본의 여론이 어떻게 변했는지, 북방영토와 센카쿠제도와 같은 다른 영토 분쟁과 비교하여 독도 이슈에 대한 일본인의 관심 변화를 분석했다. 연구 결과, 일본인이 독도에 관한 관심이 가장 증가한 시기는 2008년 이명박 대통령 방문 시기이며 독도 분쟁이 어떤 내용인지에 대해 궁금해하기 시작한다. 2009년은 한국에 대한 일본의 부정적 여론이 생겨나며 일본에서 독도 분쟁에 대한 한국의 주장에 대해 관심을 가지기 시작한다. 2011년은 일본에서 다케시마와 관련한 다양한 이슈가 나타남과 동시에, 다케시마에 대한 세계의 반응에 관해서도 관심을 가지기 시작한다. 2014년에서 2016년에 한국에 대한 일본의 부정적 여론은 떨어지기 시작했는데, 이는 일본에 다케시마와 관련된 부정적인 이슈가 크게 존재하지 않았던 시기라고 할 수 있다. 마지막으로 북방영토, 센카쿠제도와 비교했을 때 독도 분쟁에 대한 일본인의 인식은 북방영토는 빼앗긴 땅이라 인식하지만 독도의 경우 빼앗긴 땅인 것인지, 역사적으로 정말 어느 나라의 땅인 것인지에 대해 인식이 불분명한 결과가 나왔다. 해당 연구는 기존 사료에 의존한 연구와는 달리 구글 트렌드를 통해 웹, 뉴스, 유튜브 등의 최신 검색 트렌드들을 종합적으로 분석하여 일본 내 대중의 관심과 지정학적 서사의 역할을 이해하였다는데 그 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed the evolution of Japanese interest in the Dokdo issue using Google Trends data. First, we studied Japanese perceptions of the Dokdo issue and how Japanese public opinion toward South Korea has changed, and then we analyzed Japanese interest in the Dokdo issue in comparison to other territorial disputes such as the Northern Territories and the Senkaku Islands. The study found that Japanese interest in Dokdo peaked around the time of President Lee Myung-bak visit to South Korea in 2008, when they began to wonder what the dispute was all about. In 2009, Japan's negative public opinion of South Korea increases, and Japanese people become interested in South Korea's claims to the islands. In 2011, issues related to Takeshima begin to emerge in Japan, and the world's reaction to Takeshima begins to be of interest. From 2014 to 2016, Japan's negative public opinion of South Korea began to decline, a period in which Takeshima-related issues that negatively impacted Japan were largely absent. Finally, when comparing the Northern Territories issue to the Senkaku Islands issue, it was found that the interest in the Dokdo dispute and Japanese people's perceptions of it are different, with the Northern Territories being perceived as stolen land, but in the case of Dokdo, it is unclear whether it is stolen land or historically belonging to a country. The significance of this study is that it comprehensively analyzed the latest search trends on the web, news, and YouTube through Google Trends to understand the dynamics of public interest and geopolitical narratives in Japan, unlike previous studies that relied on historical sources.
