국문 초록

이혼이 범죄에 미치는 영향을 분석한 국내외 선행연구는 이혼율 변수를 중심으로 분석하고 있다. 그러나 이혼율 이외에 이혼과 관련된 변수로서 범죄에 미치는 영향은 다수 존재할 수 있다. 중·장년층의 이혼이 청년층의 이혼보다 이혼자의 삶에 미치는 영향은 크고, 배우자와의 결혼기간이 길수록 안정적인 생활을 영위할 수 있다. 이러한 사항이 범죄비용 및 인간관계에서의 갈등 등에 영향을 미쳐 범죄 유발 요인이 될 수 있기 때문이다. 이를 고려하여, 본 연구는 2001년부터 2015년까지 16개 광역 지자체별 거시 데이터를 활용하여 이혼율 외에 이혼관련 변수(이혼연령, 결혼기간)가 범죄에 미치는 영향을 회귀분석으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 기대수명 등을 통제한 이후, 이혼연령은 범죄에 유의한 양(+)의 영향을, 결혼기간은 범죄에 유의한 음(-)의 영향을 미침을 확인하였다. 또한, 이혼연령, 결혼기간, 이혼율의 순서로 범죄에 영향을 미치는 등 이혼율보다 이혼연령 및 결혼기간이 범죄를 설명하는 보다 유용한 변수임을 확인하였다. 이를 통해 선행연구에서 이혼율이 범죄를 설명하는 정도 중 상당 부분은 사실상 이혼연령 및 결혼기간에 의해 설명되는 것일 수 있음을 합리적으로 의심해 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

Prior studies analyzing the relationship between divorce and crime focus the divorce rate. However, many variables other than the divorce rate can make an influence on crime. The divorce in middle and older adults may affect crime more than that in younger ones. The longer the living duration with his/her spouse, the stabler the life. There is a possibility that some divorce-related factors can affect crime costs or conflicts in human relationships, causing crime. Considering it, this study analyzes the impacts of divorce-related variables such as divorce age and marriage duration on crime, using data from 2001 to 2015 collected from 16 Korean local governments. The analysis result after controlling the life expectancy, etc. is that divorce age has a significantly positive effect on crime and marriage duration has a significantly negative effect on crime. It can also be confirmed that divorce age and marriage duration are more useful variables to explain crime than divorce rate. As a result, it is reasonable to have a doubt that much of the extent to which divorce rate account for crime in prior studies can in fact be explained by divorce age and marriage duration.
