국문 초록
Korean society in the 1980s was a time when various conflicts erupted in all areas of society, including politics and economy. Among them, the chaos experienced by Gwangju and Honam was so intense that it could not be compared to any other region. In particular, the Gwangju Democratization Movement in May 1980 stigmatized Gwangju and Honam as areas of riots and rebellion for a while. The dictatorship consolidated the media to control public opinion, and as a result, newspapers and media outlets representing the region disappeared. In this situation of extreme confusion, the local magazine Ye-hyang appeared. The magazine Ye-hyang puts Honam as a region that loves art and culture, but various desires were hidden behind it. The Ye-hyang explicitly revealed its popularity and commerciality and tried to attract readers' attention. Among them, what stands out is the reproduction that reflects stereotypes and prejudices toward women. The representation of women shows the power of men over women in a patriarchal ideological society. However, there is also the peculiarity of the times faced by men in Gwangju and Honam. This incident, in which countless people fought against unjust power, was concealed and distortion and insults were added again. The magazine Hometown can find the deficiency, compensation psychology, and desire for recognition of Jeolla-do men who lived through this era.
