孫文의 아시아주의의 궤적과 현재성 : 동아시아론 계보상의 위치

국문 초록

필자가 지금 구상 중인 중국 (동)아시아담론의 계보를 탐구하는 큰 과제의 일부로서 이 글에서는 손문의 아시아주의의 의미를 다시 음미해보고자 한다. 여기서 그가 ‘말한 것’과 ‘말하지 않은 것’을 분별해 분석함으로써 그의 사상과 실천을 좀더 깊이 이해할 수 있고, 더 나아가 그의 아시아주의라는 ‘자원’이 현재적 의미를 갖는지를 탐구할 수 있겠다. 구체적으로 손문의 아시아주의가 1910~20년대 중국의 동시대 다른 사상가들(특히 李大釗)의 아시아주의와 연동하면서도 그만의 독특성이 어떤 의미를 갖는지에 주목한다. 이어서 탈냉전 시기 대두한 (동)아시아담론의 주요 흐름인 ‘방법으로서의 아시아’를 둘러싼 논의, 필자 식으로 이름 붙이면 ‘중국의 상대화/역사화’ 조류에 중점을 두면서, 그것이 손문의 아시아주의와 어떤 연결 지점을 갖는지 살펴본다. 이와같이 20세기 초 중국에서 아시아를 말하는 것과 21세기 초 아시아를 말하는 것의 차이를 중시함으로써 세계체제 내에서 중국이 차지하는 위치의 변화, 곧 반-식민지에서 ‘글로벌 차이나’로의 이행이 빚어내는 담론의 효과 차이를 밝힐 수 있다. 이것이야말로 손문의 아시아주의를 역사 맥락 속에서 상대화하고 그 현재성을 확인하는 데 요구되는 절차일 터이다.

영문 초록

As part of a broader project to explore the genealogy of Chinese (East) Asian discourse, this paper re­examines the meaning of Sun Yatsen’s Asianism. By distinguishing between what he articulated and what he left unsaid, we can gain a deeper understanding of his thought and practice to judge whether his concept of Asianism remains relevant intellectual resource today. In particular, I consider the unique significance of Sun’s Asianism in its intersections with a divergence from the Asianist ideas of other Chinese thinkers of the 1910s and 1920s-especially Li Dazhao(1889—1927). The paper then turns to post­Cold War debates on (East) Asian discourse, particularly the paradigm of “Asia as Method” which are framed as a current of “relativizing/historicizing China” to explore potential points of connection between this discourse and Sun Yatsen’s Asianism. By foregrounding the difference between the discourses on Asia in early 20th and 21st centuries, this study highlights the shift in China’s position within the global system―from a semi­colonial state to “Global China”―and the resultant transformation in the effects and stakes of East Asian discourse. This process is essential for historically contextualizing and relativizing Sun’s Asianism and for assessing its contemporary significance.
