외국인 학부생 대상 문학 토론 수업에서 대화형 AI의 언어 모델링 기능 탐색

국문 초록

이 연구는 외국인 학부생들이 문학 텍스트 기반의 한국어 말하기 활동에서 경험하는 언어·문화적장벽을 대화형 인공지능(AI)의 언어 모델링(Language Modeling) 기능으로 보완할 수 있는지를 탐색하는데에 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 서울 소재 S대학에서 2024년 1학기와 2학기에 진행한 <한국문학개론> 수업에서의 말하기 활동 일부를 분석하였다. 해당 수업에서는 김승옥 작가의 ｢서울, 1964년 겨울｣을읽고 토론하는 활동에 대화형 AI(ChatGPT)를 활용하여, 학습자들이 AI와 상호작용하며 말하기 발화를준비하고 구성할 수 있도록 수업을 설계하였다. 연구 결과, AI는 한국어 말하기 수업에서 어휘나 표현제안, 담화 구조 안내, 감정 표현, 배경지식 설명 등 실시간 언어 모델링 제공자로서의 역할을 수행하였다. 이로써 문학 텍스트 기반 말하기 활동에서는 대화형 AI가 발화의 다양성과 유창성 향상에 기여할수 있음을 확인하였다. 이러한 결과는 문학 교육과 AI 기술의 융합이 외국인 학습자의 말하기 교육에새로운 가능성을 제시한다고 할 수 있겠다.

영문 초록

This study explores the potential of conversational artificial intelligence (AI) language modeling to address the linguistic and cultural barriers encountered by international undergraduate students in literature-based Korean speaking activities. To this end, a qualitative analysis was conducted on speaking activities from the Introduction to Korean Literature course offered at S University in Seoul during the first and second semesters of 2024. In this course, students read and discussed Kim Seung-ok’s short story “Seoul, Winter 1964”, with interactive AI (ChatGPT) integrated into the speaking activities. The course was designed to allow learners to engage with AI to prepare and organize their spoken output. The findings indicate that AI functioned effectively as a real-time language model, offering lexical and phrase suggestions, discourse structuring, emotional expression, and background knowledge support. These results suggest that conversational AI can enhance both the diversity and fluency of learners’ spoken production in literature-based speaking tasks. The study highlights the educational potential of integrating AI technology with literary instruction to support speaking development among international learners of Korean.
