Smart Thinking is a book that focuses on the cultivation of logical thinking. It is filled with brilliant theoretical insights and abundant practical guiding suggestions. Therefore, translators must comprehensively consider the cultural background of the target-language readers and the intended communicative effects of the translation when translating. They should use concise and clear expressions to convey the information in the source text, so as to ensure the accuracy, fluency, and readability of the translation. Based on the requirements of the translation and the linguistic features of the source text, Hans Vermeer’s Skopos Theory has been selected as the guiding theory for this translation practice to analyze and summarize the methods and strategies during the translation process. The Skopos Theory holds that translators should determine the translation strategies and linguistic styles of the target text according to the purpose of translation. Its core consists of the three principles of Skopos Theory, namely the Skopos rule, the coherence rule, and the fidelity rule. Among them, the Skopos rule is of primary importance, while the other two rules are subordinate to it. This report conducts an in-depth analysis of typical cases in the translation practice of Smart Thinking (Excerpts), combining theory with practice, and deeply explores the translation strategies and methods for informative texts from the three levels of vocabulary, sentences, and discourse. Writing this report will, on the one hand, help the author summarize personal translation experience, and on the other hand, contribute to the improvement of translation quality, thus providing valuable references for the translation of such texts in the future.
