Changes in Body Shape of Middle-Aged Men Based on the 5th, 6th, and 7th Size Korea Anthropometric Data

Background/Objectives: This study uses the 5th, 6th, and 7th data of Size Korea to compare and analyze changes in men’s body types based on social and economic environments for the same age group. Methods: Anthropometric measurements were performed to analyze body-shape changes in Korean men aged 35-69 years with respect to the measurement year. A total of 54 items from direct measurements were analyzed using SPSS 25.0. Results: The analysis human-body measurements by year shows that most height items, except for the waist height, increased in the 7th data. As for the circumference items, the average values of the data measured for the 7th Size Korea are the smallest for elbow circumference, wrist circumference, and ankle circumference; however, for other items, the circumference measurement in 2015 indicates the highest values. Bust breadth and depth tend to increase over time. The measured hip depth decreased more in the 7th data than in the 5th data. Furthermore, this measurement confirmed that the front and side body shapes changed. Based on an analysis of the trend of changes in the obese population by measurement year, the 7th data show the highest weight among all groups. Meanwhile, cross-analysis shows no significant difference in the population composition ratio of obese groups by measurement period for each age group. However, the proportion of overweight individuals exceed 70% in all age groups, and the proportion of the obese population increased in the 7th data. Conclusion/Implications: This study analyzes changes in human-body dimensions and the trends in the obese population of adult men aged 35-69 with respect to measurement year. The results serve as basic data that can be reflected in clothing design.
