호르몬 검사의 기능의학적 접근: 부신과 성장 호르몬 중심으로

국문 초록

기능의학 의원에 진료를 보러 오는 환자들의 주된 호소 증상은 대표적으로 피로, 무기력, 부종, 체중변화, 통증, 기억력 저하, 수면장애, 소화기 불편증상, 피부증상 등이 있다. 이 때, 다른 검사들과 더불어 호르몬 평가를 함께 시행하여 이에 대한 개선 치료를 고려하는 것이 증상개선에 도움이 될 수 있다. 부신 호르몬 코르티솔(cortisol)과 dehydroepiandrosterone는 스트레스 반응에 중요한 역할을 담당하면서 함께 정신적 건강, 신체적 기능, 근력, 골밀도, 항염증 기능과 면역 조절 기능도 가진다. 성장호르몬은 성인에서는 지방 분해, 단백질 합성 촉진, 체질량과 골량 유지, 탄수화물 대사를 통한 혈당 조절, 심혈관기능, 인지기능 조절 등의 기능을 가진다. 따라서, 환자의 초기 평가 시에 부신 호르몬과 성장 호르몬에 대한 검사도 함께 고려되는 것이 필요하겠다.

영문 초록

Patients visiting functional medicine clinics frequently present with symptoms such as fatigue, lethargy, swelling, weight fluctuations, pain, memory issues, sleep problems, digestive discomfort, and skin conditions. In these cases, alongside other diagnostic tests, evaluating hormone levels may contribute to symptom improvement. Adrenal hormones, particularly cortisol and dehydroepiandrosterone, play a crucial role in stress responses and are also involved in regulating mental health, physical function, muscle strength, bone density, anti-inflammatory functions, and immune modulation. Growth hormone in adults is essential for fat metabolism, promoting protein synthesis, maintaining body composition and bone mass, regulating carbohydrate metabolism for blood sugar control, and supporting cardiovascular and cognitive functions. Therefore, during initial patient evaluation, it is important to consider assessing adrenal hormones and growth hormone levels to address these symptoms effectively.
