국문 초록

근대 신문, 잡지 등의 대중매체를 통한 기생 담론, 특히 기생 가수 담론의 생산은 음반 산업과 상업적으로 조우하면서 이른바 ‘기생붐’을 만들어낸다. 당시음반 기획 제작자들은 음반 소비 증대를 위해 대중들의 관심과 욕구를 예민하게살폈을 것이고, 그러한 세간의 관심은 곧장 대중가요 노랫말 속에 고스란히 반영될 수밖에 없었다. 실제로도 기생을 소재로 한 노래를 적지 않게 찾아볼 수 있는데, 이들 대중가요 속에 당시 ‘핫토픽’이었던 기생은 과연 어떤 모습으로 재현되고 있었을까? 이 글에서는 대중가요 노랫말 고찰을 통해 기생을 향한 당대인의 시각과 인식을 살피고자 하였다. 근대 대중가요와 기생 가수에 관한 기존의 연구 성과를참조하면서, 연구 대상의 범위를 확대하여 논의를 진행하고자 한다. 이를 위해서우선 한국 유성기 음반 사이트에서 제공되는 대중가요 가운데 기생을 소재로 한노래의 현황을 목록화하였다. 다만 시기적으로는 1930년대 대중가요 노랫말로그 대상을 한정하였다. 기생들의 유성기 음반취입과 라디오 방송 출연 횟수가 증가와 더불어 다양한 장르의 음악이 연주되고, 권번 소속 예기에서 여류 음악가로성장하는 등 대중음악이 활발하게 확산된 시기이기도 했기 때문이다. 이어서 목록화된 1930년대 대중가요 노랫말 분석을 통해 기생을 바라보는 당대의 시각을1) 동정과 연민의 시선, 2) 순애보적 시선, 3) 비판적이고 풍자적인 시선으로 나누어 면밀히 분석해보도록 한다.

영문 초록

The production of parasitic discourse through mass media such as modern newspapers and magazines, especially parasitic singer discourse, creates a so called ‘gisaeng boom’ by commercially encountering the record industry. At that time, record planning producers would have been sensitive to the public’s interest and desire to increase record consumption, and such public interest had to be reflected directly in popular song lyrics. In fact, there are many songs about Gisaeng, and in these popular songs, how was Gisaeng, which was a ‘hot topic’ at the time, being reproduced? This article attempted to examine the perspective and perception of the contemporary people toward Gisaeng through a review of popular song lyrics. The purpose of the discussion is to expand the scope of the research subject while referring to the existing research results on modern popular songs and gisaeng singers. To this end, first, the current status of popular songs based on Gisaeng among popular songs provided on the Korean planetary record site was cataloged. However, the period limited the target to popular song lyrics in the 1930s. This is because it was a period when popular music actively spread, such as the increase in the number of Gisaengs’ listening to voiced albums and radio broadcasts, various genres of music were played, and the growth of female musicians in Gwonbeon’s expectation. Next, through the analysis of popular songs in the 1930s, the perspective of the time on Gisaeng will be analyzed from various angles.
