The meanings of end of World War Ⅱ were different to each countries ;China, Japan and Korea. Chinese called it ‘miserable victory’, Japanesecalled it ‘sorrowful defeat’, on the other hand Korean recognized it afterKorean war exactly. Because the division of the Korean Peninsula wascaused by Japan’s colonial rule, Korean started to recognize the fact afterKorean war. So each people of each counties recalls the war as each way, such cases similarly can be applied to melodramas. This paper analysis three melodramas that have been made by China,Japan and Korea and have something in common. There was not scenesof battle, moreover the fact of war didn’t work as a main motif orimportant information in these films. Only main characters just experiencedthe war that has not been seen in diegesis. However audiences would feelthe tragedy of war and recognize faintly that the nation/groups neverprotect the individuals. This paper tries to use ‘discontinuous transition’ that could be appliedto analysis the works can’t be read by reflection of reality. Discontinuoustransition usually focuses on protonarrative. In conclusion this paper interprets “Spring in a Small Town”(Fei Mu,China, 1948), “A Drifting Story (Pyolyudo)”(Gwon Yeong-sun, Korea,1960), “Floating Clouds”(Naruse Mikio, Japan, 1955) as the films depicting indirectly the devastation of war. This paper intends to let audiencesknow that the memories of the war are stored long as each way.
