국문 초록

이 소논문은 한국 전쟁이라는 집단적 트라우마가 남긴 유령성을 추적하기 위해 미주 한인 여성들의 경험의 이야기를 심층 인터뷰를 통해 수집하여 분석한다. 이들의 경험 속에서 등장하는 유령성은 유교적 가부장제가 무너지면서 발생했던 아버지의 폭력과 어려운 생활 가운데 여성들에게 힘을 불어넣어 준 유교적 선비 문화의 잔재들이 함께 보여준다. 또한 그들의 경제생활과 경제관념 가운데서 출현하는 나눔의 경제 원리는 현 세대가 감당하고 있는 신자유주의의 합리성이 유발하고 있는 3차적 고통에 대한 실천적 지혜를 제공한다.

영문 초록

This article traces the spectrality rising from the collective trauma of the Korean War by analyzing the in-depth interviews with Korean American women residing in the New York and Los Angeles areas. The spectral call observed in their narratives reveals both the violence of the frustrated fathers, who survived the destructed patriarchy during wartime and the support that these women resorted to when their leadership was needed in their community. Such communal values also extended to their economic activities, which they sustained themselves by sharing resources to bolster communal survival. Such a communal economic ethos, rooted in resource-sharing, offers a potential antidote to the third-order neoliberal suffering that isolated members within our society. This article interprets these findings as the spectral call from the collective trauma of the war and suggests responding to these calls as the strategy of soul care in a world governed by neoliberal rationality.
