영문 초록

The paper is devoted to the research on the semantic network of Russian verb of motion nesti. First of all, the validity of semantic description in the existing dictionary is examined through the frequency of the verb used in various texts. There are several controversial points in traditional approaches concerning dictionary s descriptive principle of corresponding verb. While the cognitive methodology may not be so obvious, there are implications for dealing with polysemous verb such as nest . On the assumption that cognitive approaches consider linguistic meanings as process of conceptualization, we try to analyze semantic structure of nest , taking into consideration image schema as conceptual apparatus. From the point of view, the prototypical meaning of nesti is derived from its conceptual image schema. All polysemous senses, included in nest , are based on this prototypical meaning with conceptual image schema for the reason that physical movement in a space takes shape conceptual structure in the human mind, which causes semantic derivation through metaphorical, metonymical mechanism. Accordingly, the image schema ascertains that Russian verb of motion nesti may be divided into two senses largely - movement of one entity accompanied by the other as dynamic sense and possession of states or features as static sense. The respective senses have sub-senses whose bases in their image schemas are profiled in motion, concomitance, or motional domain in accordance with examples used in texts. Moreover the image schemas can be extended to abstract ideas through conceptual instrument such as metaphor and metonymy. In conclusion, the whole image schemas regarding verb nesti are represented in semantic network which guarantees us to understand semantic interrelationship among the meanings of the verb and to establish the semantic hierarchy of meanings in ordinary explanatory dictionary.
