예비 초등교사들의 화석 개념에 대한 연구

국문 초록

화석에 대한 이해는 지구역사 연구의 핵이며, 화석에 대한 이해의 과정은 과학사 그 자체라고 할 수 있다. 초등학생 때부터 화석에 대한 개념 교육의 중요성을 일깨우는 일은 매우 의미 있는 일이며, 이와 더불어 장차 초등학생들을 가르치게 될 예비 초등교사의 화석에 대한 개념 이해 또한 이에 못지않게 중요하다고 할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구는 예비 초등교사의 ‘화석’에 대한 개념 인식 정도를 알아보기 위하여 개념 검사 문항을 개발하고, 이를 J 대학교 교육대학 예비 초등교사 203명을 대상으로 투입하여 조사하였다. 전체 문항에 대한 평균 오답률은 21.73%로 나타나, 여전히 성인이 되어도 화석에 대한 오개념은 남아 있다고 볼 수 있다. 문항별로 분석한 결과 총 20개의 개념 문항 중 8개의 문항에서 평균 이상의 오답률을 나타내었으며, 성별 간에서는 2개 문항, 학년 간에서는 4개 문항에서 유의한 차이를 나타내었다. 따라서 예비 초등교사들의 ‘화석’에 대한 오개념을 과학 개념으로 교정하기 위해 교육대학에서는 탐구 학습이나 체험 학습 등을 적용한 실제적 교수-학습 전략을 마련할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

The understanding on fossil is very important about a study of the earth s history. Andprocess of the understanding on fossil is the history of science itself. Encouraging theimportance of conception education on fossil is very meaningful from elementary schoolstudents. Along with this, the conception understanding on fossil of pre-service elementaryschool teachers is very important, too. So, the aim of this study is to develop the conceptionevaluation items for know conception understanding on fossil of pre-service elementary schoolteachers. And, the evaluation was carried out with 203 pre-service elementary school teachersof J National University. Average percentages of incorrect answer for the entire evaluationitems was 21.73%, they had still misconceptions on fossil until adulthood. The results ofanalyzing the evaluation items, the 8 items of the 20 conception questions were higher thanaverage percentages of incorrect answer. The significant differences were 2 items of betweenthe gender, 4 items of between the grade. Therefore, it would be judicious to offer practicalteaching and learning strategies using the inquiry learning or the experience learning inteachers college to correct misconceptions into scientific conceptions of pre-service elementaryschool teachers.
