本稿は植民地朝鮮に長い間居住していた在朝日本人ジャーナリストの北川佐人が編纂した『朝鮮固有色辞典』の分析を通じて「朝鮮色」という文化の文脈に「文化的人種主義」がどのように働いているのかを究明したものである。 「朝鮮色」に関する解釈をめぐる論争の<場>もなく、帝国主義、日本の劣等な他者として観察され、表象された朝鮮の文化は、韓日間の生物学的違いのない故に、言語文化的人種主義という見方に基づいて記述された。1932年に刊行された『朝鮮固有色辞典』は、朝鮮総督府の支援のもと、日本による植民統治の美化·宣伝の役割とともに「朝鮮色」という劣等な他者を設定し、帝国·日本の優越さを誇示しようとする意図を明確にしていることが分かった。 朝鮮文化に関する百科事典の役割も果たしたこの事典は、各項目の説明後、同じ題材を用いた俳句の例を挿入することにより、俳句の句集とともに歪曲された言語表象のシステムを強固にするのに寄与した。すなわち、在朝日本人の北川は、「文明」と「野蛮」という二項対立項により「朝鮮色」を創造·解釈し、差別と支配を正当化させ、その作動をより強固にする契機を提供したのである。
영문 초록
In this article, I analyse The Dictionary of Korean-proper Colours, edited by Sukehito Kitagawa, a Japanese journalist who lived in Chosun for a long time during the colonisation period, and explore the way in which “the cultural racism” is situated in the cultraul context of “Korean colour.” The Chosun culture was observed and represented as an inferior entity in the context of the Imperialism without any arguments about the interpretation of “Chosun colour.” This representation was based on the perspective of the linguistic- cultural racism because of lack of substantial biological differences between Korean and Japanese people. The present study reveals that The Dictionary of Korean- proper Colours, published in 1932, played a role in justifying and advertising Japan’s colonisation of Chosun under the support of the Government-general of Chosun and that it established the view of “Chosun colour” as an inferior entity in order to exhibit the superiority of Imperial Japan. The dictionary also inappropriately played an encyclopediac role in setting out the Chosun culture; each entry comes with an example of haiku featuring the theme of the entry, and this, together with haiku-compilation books, distorted the linguistic representational system. That is, Kitagawa, a Japanese living in Chosun, created and interpreted “Chosun colour” in terms of the dichotomy between “civilisation” and “brutality” and justified the discrimination and ruling even more firmly.
