The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of perceived stress on life satisfaction in COVID-19 situations by investigating its double-mediating effect on gratitude and depression. Three hundred seven residents of Seoul and its metropolitan area participated in this study. A correlation analysis and an analysis of the double-mediating effect of perceived stress in COVID-19 situations, life satisfaction, gratitude, and depression were performed using SPSS 19 and the PROCESS Macro (Model 6). The major findings of this study are as follows; first, perceived stress in COVID-19 situations presented a negative relationship to life satisfaction. Second, it was found that the indirect effect of perceived stress in COVID-19 situations on life satisfaction, mediated by gratitude, was statistically significant. Based on the results of this study, measures were suggested to improve levels of life satisfaction in unexpected situations that are similar to those experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
