국문 초록

역내 고유모형의 구축을 지향한 경험과학적 지역연구의 성패는 모형의 내적 타당성을 확보해 주는 비교지표의 사례내사례간 측정타당성에 달려있다. 이러한 측정타당성을 지닌 사례별 등가지표(casewise equivalent measures)를 도출하기 위한 전략으로서 ①최대유사체계 분석안을 통한 교차사례적 기준지표의 도출 ②도출된 기준지표와 사례별로 상정된 잠정적 등가지표와의 결집성을 파악하기 위한 인자분석 ③등가성의 근거로서 동일한 인자군에 속한 개별 지표들의 중다공선성과 통계적 유의미성을 확인하기 위한 회귀분석 ④최종적으로 선별된 등가지표와 기준지표와의 상관성 재확인이라는 네 가지 단계를 제시할 수 있다. 기준지표와의 군집성을 나타내는 동시에, 기준지표와 더불어 설명변인으로 상정된 중다회귀분석을 수행하였을 때 상당 수준의 설명력과 중다공선성을 표출하는 사례별 지표들은 등가지표로서 작동할 가능성이 높다. 그러나 측정지표의 등가성은 결코 통계적으로 확정될 수 없다. 등가성은 본질적으로 지표의 문화적 의미와 위상에 대한 해석의 문제이기 때문에 통계적 유의미성으로는 보장될 수 없는 문화적 적실성(cultural relevance)을 갖추어야 한다.

영문 초록

Successful construction of the analytic models in empirical-comparative area study depends on the casewise as well as cross-cases measurement validity of the operating indicators. A four-step methodological strategy is suggested here to identify equivalent measures for each case: ①selection of the cross-cases reference indicators by using the most Similar Systems Design ②delineation of the clustering pattern of the tentative equivalent measures around the reference indicators through factor analysis ③two-step multiple regressions for detecting multicollinearity among the explanatory variables comprising the reference indicators and the tentative equivalent measures, followed by the test of significance for each variable ④building a correlation matrix to confirm statistically meaningful relationship between the reference indicator and the finally selected equivalent measures. Cross-cases equivalence, however, is the problem of cultural interpretation; statistical techniques alone cannot verify nor corroborate the equivalence of indicators.
