남녀공학 중학교의 교육적 효과 분석

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 중학교 학생들의 성역할 의식 및 학교생활 행복감에 대한 학교유형 효과를 분석함으로써 남녀공학의 교육적 효과를 살펴보는 것이다. 특히 본 연구에서는 남녀공학의 교육적 효과를 좀 더 구체적으로 검증하기 위해, 남녀공학의 남학생과 여학생을 분리하여 ‘남학교와 남녀공학 남학생’, ‘여학교와 남녀공학 여학생’ 간의 차이를 비교하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 경남지역의 전체 중학교 모집단(265교) 가운데 학교유형에 따른 짝집기 표집을 통해 총 114교를 표집학교로 선정하였다. 표집학교의 중학교 3학년 학생을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여, 최종적으로 남학교, 여학교 각 27교, 남녀공학 24교(남녀합반 16교, 남녀분반 8교) 포함 총 78교로부터 자료를 수집하여 분석하였다. 연구결과, 학교유형에 상관없이 여학생이 남학생에 비해 성역할 의식이 좀 더 진보적인 것으로 나타났지만, 성역할 의식에 대한 학교효과를 분석한 결과 남녀공학 여학생이 여학교 여학생보다 성차 및 성역할에 대한 고정관념이 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 학교유형에 상관없이 남학생이 여학생보다 학교생활 행복감이 더 높은 것으로 나타났지만, 학교생활 행복감에 대한 학교효과를 분석한 결과 남녀공학 남학생이 남학교 남학생보다 학교생활 행복감이 더 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과를 기초로 남녀공학 교육 및 남녀분리 수업에 대한 교육적 제고 및 내실화 방안을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the educational effectiveness of coed schools comparing to the difference of awareness of gender role and happiness in school life in coed or single-sex of middle schools. Especially, to be more specific verify the educational effectiveness of coed-school, we compared to the differences of ‘male students in all-boys and coed school’ and ‘female students in all-girls and coed school’ which separated to male and female in coed school. To this end, a total of 114 schools were selected from the entire middle school population (265 schools) in the Gyeongsangnam-do area by using paired-sampling method of school types. We conducted a survey on middle school seniors in sampling schools, and finally used data from 78 schools, including 27 schools for boys and girls, and 24 schools for coed schools(16 coed class, 8 single-sex class). As results, regardless of school type female students had more liberal gender role senses than male students but after controlling for extraneous variables that might affect the awareness of gender role, the awareness of gender role of female in coed school were higher than that of female in all-girls school. Alike, regardless of school type the happiness in school life of the male students were higher than that of the female students but after controlling for extraneous variables that might affect the happiness in school life, happiness in school life of male in coed school were lower than that of male in all-boys school. Based on the results of this study, we suggested on the educational improvements of coed school and single-sex class.
