Human perception of climatic change has shifted from collective agricultural activities to private experiences within urban environments. In contrast to studies of outdoor engagements with nature, this article considers contemporary home Chinese vegetable gardening in Perth (Western Australia) as an individualized or family practice of gastronomy within a domestic space. The article focuses on the theme of gastronomy in relation to the influences of geographic climate diversity and global environmental crisis of climate change through the material practices of diasporic people. It explores the relationship between climate change gastronomy via diasporic gardening from both historical and cultural perspectives. An ethnographic methodology of multisensorial studies and food studies is applied to understanding the inheritance and transformation of modern Chinese diasporic cultivation experiences in their backyards affected by the Western Australian natural environment and globally climate change.
