The purpose of this study was Lo investigate thc children’s playfulness in the day care center according to demographic variables(sex, age), sibling related variables (sibling number, birth order, sex of sibling), and physical environment variables(size, structure, and dimension of play space, play materials).
The teachers of 251 children enrolled in the 10 day care centers responsed to questionnaires about the children’s playful ness and the related variables. For measuring children’s playfulness, the revised Child Behaviors Inventory(CBI) developed by Rogers, Meeks, Impra & Frary(1991) was used.
The frequency, the percentage was calculated and one-way ANOVA was conducted for data analysis.
The results were as follows:
1. The mean score of children’s playfulness was 59.5.
Children’s playfulness was not found significantly different according to the sex and age of the children.
2. Children’s playfulness was not found significantly different according to the sibling variables.
3. Children’s playful ness was found significantly different according to the numbers of outdoor play materials and all play matreials, the structure of indoor space. Other variables of physical environment was not found significantly different.
