영문 초록

Deconstruction as an attempt to break with structuralistic thought states that it is impossible for a text to have one fixed meaning in contemporary philosophy, literary criticism, and social sciences. Deconstruction applied in design is to dissolve the frame as a method of creating design concept and making new interpretation. This study developed theoretical framework and analyzed the designer collections from 2000 S/S to 2009 S/S of Martin Margiela. The purpose of this study was to consider the ways of deconstruction in fashion design by analysis on Martin Margiela, representative of deconstructive designer, as an inspiration case for creative design planning. Martin Margiela overlaps the different materials and forms as a way to show the imperfection in his own way. In his design, ‘Différance’ is expressed by coexistence of past, now, and future with combination of old and new clothes and destructing the unity and continuity with reorganization of broken clothes. ‘Inter-textuality’ is expressed in the way of mixing gender, interblending images, and combining different materials. ‘Undecidability’ has different effects according to installing method and is expressed as disregarding the wearing method that is based on human’s body. The Martin Margiela’s design works are mainly characterized as unconstructed forms and reconstructed silhouette and details. The designer emphasizes the exaggerated shoulder matching with color of material on his works in a refined way. A creation of design work “a grey one-piece” in this study was inspired by Martin Margiela’s design works, which expresses deconstruction of gender and normal way to wear. The deconstruction design has no rules and limits for expression by way of expanding the area of creativity. The study of the deconstruction contributes the understanding of post-modern fashion and creative fashion design planning.
