This paper aims to review reading textbook's unit structure from 5th curriculum to 2007 revised curriculum, and discuss on the meanings for better reading instructions.
Textbook's unit structure directly influences on reading lesson design, so unit structure should be analyzed before syllabus designing. Through last curriculum periods, textbook's unit structures were changed on several points, focusing on the realization of 'principle-application' lesson, which is based on a maximizing readers' rehearsal activity effects.
But unit structure' functions became to be unstable in 7th curriculum, because of unit size. 7th curriculum pursued to students' level lesson, then new unit form, like a 'basic lessonevaluation-supplementary/deepen lesson' pattern, was chosen. That was not appropriate for students' strategy rehearsals, esp. because of large size and insufficiency times. That problems occur same to 2007 revised curriculum, focusing on knowledge lessons' importance of text form and characteristics.
Therefore better teachers should be review reading textbooks' unit, then design reading instructions, based on reading strategy lessons for better reading activities.
