The purpose of this study was to investigate housewife"s intake and awareness about functional health food in Cheong-ju area. The questionnaires had been distributed to 300 housewives. Total 288(96%) answers were collected and analyzed. It was appeared that 75 % of respondents had experience of taking the functional health food. The forties and the fifties took more functional health food than other age groups. It was appeared that 56 % of the respondents were aware of the composition and the effect of the functional health food. The cost for buying the functional health food was ranged mostly between 50,000 won and 100,000 won per month. The functional health food mostly taken were nutritional supplements, ginseng process foods, products containing lactobacillus in order of frequency. It was appeared that 85 % of the respondents were not aware of the enforcement of the functional health food" law.
In conclusion, since the degree of low awareness of the functional health food was low. It is strongly needed to educate consumers about the functional health food.
