연결된 개인주의를 통해 바라본 Z세대의 디지털 여가 문화

국문 초록

본 연구는 디지털 전환기 Z세대의 여가 실천을 중심으로 연결된 개인주의 (networked individualism)의 특성과 그 사회문화적 함의를 탐색하고, Z세대의 관계적 실천 양상인 유동적 연대(fluid solidarity) 개념을 정립하는 데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 전통적 개인주의와의 개념적 차이를 규명하고, XR 기반 하이브리드 스포츠와 몰입형 체험 여가 사례를 통해 유동적 연대의 구현 방식과 공동체 감각 재구성 과정을 심층적으로 고찰하였다. 연구 결과, 연결된 개인주의는 자아정체성의 유동성과 유연한 연결을 추구하는 이론적 틀로 정의되며, Z세대는 자율적 선택을 바탕으로 목적에 따라 일시적으로 형성·해체되는 느슨한 관계를 통해 간접적인 사회적 소속감을 획득하는 것으로 나타났다. XR 기반 하이브리드 스포츠는 공간적 경계의 해체를 통해 시간과 장소의 제약을 초월한 자율성과 선택적 연결을 동시에 구현한다. 또한, 몰입형 체험 여가는 아바타를 통한 디지털 정체성과 감각적 몰입 경험을 바탕으로 새로운 공동체 감각을 형성한다. 이러한 결과는 전통적 개인주의 담론을 확장하고, XR 기반 여가 실천을 분석할 수 있는 ‘유동적 연대’라는 새로운 분석 프레임을 제시했다는 점에서 학술적 의의를 지닌다. 또한, Z세대의 자율성과 소속감 욕구를 반영한 플랫폼 및 콘텐츠 설계에 실질적인 통찰을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

This study investigates the characteristics and sociocultural implications of networked individualism in the leisure practices of Generation Z during the digital transition era. It aims to conceptualize ‘fluid solidarity’ as a relational mode of practice unique to this generation. To this end, the study first differentiates networked individualism from traditional individualism, and then examines how fluid solidarity is enacted and how communal sensibilities are reconfigured through XR-based hybrid sports and immersive leisure experiences. The findings indicate that networked individualism serves as a theoretical framework emphasizing flexible connections and fluid self-identities, in contrast to the isolated independence of traditional individualism. Generation Z demonstrates the capacity to form and dissolve temporary social ties based on autonomous choices, thereby acquiring indirect social belonging through fluid solidarity. XR-based hybrid sports dismantle spatial boundaries, enabling the simultaneous realization of autonomy and selective connection beyond temporal and physical constraints. Moreover, immersive leisure experiences—centered on avatar-based digital identities and sensory immersion—facilitate the emergence of new communal sensibilities without the obligations of conventional collectivism. This study contributes to expanding the discourse on individualism in the digital age and introduces fluid solidarity as a novel analytical framework for understanding XR-based leisure practices. It also offers practical insights for platform and content design that reflect Generation Z’s dual pursuit of autonomy and belonging.
