국문 초록

The development of digital imaging technology has changed the overall look of the movie making process. Reduction of cost and shortened production period are the most notable changes via digital technology. However, in addition to technical advantages production-wise, such technical development will have a huge influence on aesthetic elements. In case of traditional movie making process, directing abilities were given strong priority over technical elements such as editing and sound, which were widely considered to be only accessorial. However such trend is surely narrow-minded. Referring to the quote once made by George Lucas that “sound is 50% of moviegoing experience”, wouldn’t it be right to carefully assume that the importance of sound, that has only played a supporting role to directing, now accounts for half of what a movies represents aesthetically? Although not surprisingly one could say such assumption is exaggerated and a logical leap is involved, a quote by George Lucas, a legendary director could imply a lot. Having said so, from an aesthetic development point of view, value of technical producers who are responsible for second-half of movie production can be considered very crucial to the entire film industry. In this thesis, the influence on film’s aesthetic development will be discussed focussing on changes brought to movie making process by development of digital technology.
