비인가 대안학교 청소년의 교육 경험 사례연구: 대안학교에서 대학교까지

국문 초록

이 연구는 대안학교 학생들의 교육 경험을 다중사례연구로 탐색하여 정규 교육과정 바깥에서 이뤄지는 학업형 학교 밖 청소년의 학습 경험과 대학진학 여정을 깊이 들여다보았다. 이를 위해 대안학교에 재학한 후 대학생이 된 일곱 명의 연구참여자와 심층 면담을 진행하였다. 참여자들은 부모님의 권유로 대안학교에 진학한 경우가 많았지만 비정규 교육과정에서 배우고 싶다는 의지를 어린 나이부터 강력히 내비친 참여자도 있었다. 정규 교육과정에서는 할 수 없는 다양한 경험을 바탕으로 ‘나’만의 세계를 구축하던 참여자들에게도 대학과 학벌을 너무도 중시하는 우리 사회의 대학진학은 당연한 선택지였다. 참여자들은 또래보다 늦었다는 부담감을 안으며 낯선 암기식 점수 매기기 입시 공부에 매진해야 했다. 이들은 대학 공부가 입시 공부와는 전혀 딴판이고 오히려 비정규 교육과정의 공부 방식과 비슷하다면서 남다른 경험에 자부심을 느끼며 독립적인 대학생으로 자신의 길을 개척하고 있다. 이 연구는 청소년을 학생으로, 학생을 정규 교육과정 재학생으로 치환하는 풍토에 문제를 제기하며 대안학교에서도 학업을 계속하는 학교 밖 청소년들이 존재함을 보여준다. The present study was aimed at exploring the learning experience of Korean out-of-school youths who attended alternative schools through multiple case studies. In-depth interviews were held with seven participants who attended alternative schools and currently are university students. The result was derived through both researchers' consent and the participants. Participants mostly entered alternative schools at their parents’ strong recommendation. There was an interviewee who voluntarily chose an autonomous learning environment even at a young age. In the irregular curriculum, participants were able to experience unique things which could not be done in a regular curriculum, creating their own world. However, the norm of attending a university was also pervasive in research participants ambiguously but obviously. With a great concern that they started their college entrance procedure later than others, participants had to struggle with unfamiliar studying styles such as rote memorization and focusing on scoring satisfactorily. Unlike different learning styles of college preparation, college education itself was in accordance with their irregular curriculum. Participants were proud of their unique path and independently constructing their lifestyles. The current research was able to criticize a prevalent phenomenon that assumes every adolescent merely exists in the regular curriculum, proving that there are out-of-school youths in the alternative school as a student.
