국문 초록

예이츠는『헤르네의 알』에 인간의 삶과 죽음의 과정에서 성취되는 수숩티와 투리야 상태뿐만 아니라 신과 합일 과정을 인도 사상으로 재현했다. 이 극작품은 아일랜드 역사와 신화를 바탕에 두고 인도 사상을 상징과 비유로 중첩시켜서 노래한 희비극 작품이었다. 관객들은 이 작품에서 초현실적 분위기, 장난감 당나귀, 역동적인 노래와 춤, 냉소적인 유머 등의 사용을 보면서 인간의 정신이 수숩티 상태를 거쳐 투리야 상태에서 신과 완전하게 합일되는 과정을 깊이 숙고하게 했다. 코노트 왕 콩갈의 삶과 환상, 헤르네의 여사제 어트랙타의 신인 합일 과정은 현대인들에게 물질문명보다 정신문명의 중요성을 각성시키는 동기를 부여했다. 그래서 예이츠의 『헤르네의 알』은 관객들이 인간의 삶과 죽음을 깊이 성찰하고 자신의 삶을 한번 되돌아볼 수 있는 시간을 갖게 한다.

영문 초록

W.B. Yeats, in The Herne’s Egg, recreated the states of Susupti and Turiya, achieved in the course of human life and death, as well as the process of unity with God with Indian thought. This play was a tragicomedy based on Irish history and mythology, overlapping Indian thought with symbols and metaphors. The audience was given time to deeply contemplate the process of the human spirit completely uniting with God through Susupti and Turiya, while watching the use of surreal atmosphere, toy donkeys, dynamic songs and dances, and cynical humor in this play. The life and fantasy of King Congal of Connacht, and the process of unity with God and man by Attracta, the priestess of Herne, motivated modern people to realize the importance of spiritual civilization over material civilization. Therefore, Yeats’ The Herne’s Egg allows the audience to deeply reflect on human life and death and take a moment to reflect on their own lives.
