『淮南子』에 나타나는 十二支의 해석

국문 초록

본 논문에서는 『회남자』에 나타나는 십이지의 해석을 살펴보면서 십이지의 세계가 어떻게 변하여 가는지에 대한 한 단면을 밝혀왔다. 십이지는 날짜의 의미로 사용된 것이 최초의 모습이었다. 『회남자』에 나타나는 십이지의 해석은 물론 『회남자』이전의 해석으로부터 많은 영향을 받고 있다. 그렇지만 『회남자』에서 처음으로 나타나는 해석이 있고, 이를 통해 십이지의 해석의 변화를 볼 수 있었다. 먼저 십이지와 방위의 관계에 대해서, 『회남자』에서 처음으로 직접 십이지와 방위의 관계에 대한 언급이 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 달(월)의 결정은 초요(招搖)와 십이지의 관계에 근거하고 있고, 이것은 천문학적 지식의 변화를 의미하는 것이기도 하다. 그리고 해(연도)를 정하는 기준도 십이지와 歲星(木星)의 관계에서 결정되고 있고, 이러한 점에서 십이지와 별자리의 관계에 대한 해석을 볼 수 있었다. 십이지가 새로이 해석되는 가운데 십이지의 원리에 대한 해석도 등장하고 있다. 먼저 십이지의 원리로서 오행의 生·壯·死를 들 수가 있다. 이 십이지의 원리에 대한 언급은 『회남자』에서 처음으로 나타나고 있는데, 특징적인 것은 오행 모두를 언급하고 있는 것이다. 또 『회남자』에는 六合이라는 십이지의 원리를 제시하고 있다. 『회남자』에서는 이러한 십이지의 합의 의미를 정치에까지 적용하고 있는데, 이것 역시 『회남자』에서 처음으로 언급되고 있는 십이지의 원리이다. 그리고 『회남자』에서는 刑德과 北斗로 십이지를 해석하고 있다. 이러한 刑德이나 北斗에 의한 해석은 결국 십이지에 또 다른 원리를 부여한 것이라고 할 수 있다. 이상을 통해 볼 때, 『회남자』가 저술되던 당시에 십이지에 관한 관심과 그 해석의 변화가 활발했다는 것을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

This paper is a study on the interpretation of the Twelve earthly branches(十二支) in Huainanzi(淮南子). The Twelve earthly branches(十二支) were initially used as a date meaning. There is an interpretation of the Twelve earthly branches(十二支) that appears for the first time in Huainanzi(淮南子). This allowed us to see a change in the interpretation of the Twelve earthly branches(十二支). As for the relationship between the Twelve earthly branches(十二支) and the direction, there is a direct reference to this for the first time in Huainanzi(淮南子). The decision of the month is based on the relationship between Zhāoyáo(招摇) and the Twelve earthly branches(十二支). This means a change in astronomical knowledge. And the standard for determining the year is the relationship between the Twelve earthly branches(十二支) and Jupiter(歲星). In this respect, we could see an interpretation of the relationship between the Twelve earthly branches(十二支) and the stars. Amid the new interpretation of the Twelve earthly branches(十二支), there is also an interpretation of the twelve earthly branches’s principles. There is also the appearance and disappearance of the Five Elements(五行) as the principle of the twelve earthly branches. This principle first appears in Huainanzi(淮南子). In addition, Huainanzi(淮南子) tells the principles of the Twelve earthly branches(十二支) called six combinations(六合). And Huainanzi(淮南子) interprets the Twelve earthly branches(十二支) as Xíng dé(刑德) and Běidǒu(北斗).
