국문 초록

본 연구는 조직 내에서 타인의 비윤리적 행동을 목격했을 때, 행위자와의 친소 관계가 윤리적 심각성 인식과 고발 의도에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 16개 사례를 통해, 얼굴만 아는 동료보다 친밀한 동료의 비윤리적 행동에 대해 윤리적 판단이 더 관대하게 이루어짐을 확인하였다. 비윤리적 행동을 목격한 뒤 조치를 취할지 여부는 윤리적 심각성 인식과는 다른 양상을 보였다. 윤리적 심각성이 높다고 판단된 행동의 경우, 친밀한 동료의 행동에 대한 고발 의도가 얼굴만 아는 동료보다 낮게 나타났다. 반면, 윤리적 심각성이 낮게 인식된 개인적 행동의 경우, 심각성 인식에 차이가 있더라도 고발 의도는 전반적으로 매우 낮았다. 내집단 편애는 윤리적 판단에서 일관되게 나타났으며, 비윤리적 행동의 심각성이 매우 낮은 경우에는 친소 관계와 무관하게 고발 의도가 낮았다.

영문 초록

This study examines the influence of relational closeness between the observer and the perpetrator on the perceived ethical severity of unethical behaviors and the intention to report such behaviors within organizational contexts. Based on an analysis of 16 scenarios, the results indicate that unethical actions committed by close colleagues are judged more leniently than those committed by less familiar acquaintances. Furthermore, the intention to report these behaviors did not consistently correspond with the perceived ethical severity. Specifically, even when unethical behaviors were deemed highly severe, participants demonstrated a lower intention to report if the perpetrator was a close colleague compared to an acquaintance. In contrast, for behaviors perceived as having low ethical severity, the overall intention to report remained minimal regardless of relational closeness. These findings highlight the persistent effect of in-group favoritism on ethical judgment and suggest that when unethical acts are perceived as minimally severe, reporting intentions are negligible irrespective of the relational context.
