김초엽 SF문학에 나타난 장애인의 몸, 시간, 공간의 재구성: 블로흐의 ‘비동시성의 동시성’ 개념 적용

국문 초록

본 연구는 최근 SF문학에서 ‘장애’에 대한 긍정적 사유를 확장하고, 존재하면서도 존재하지 않는 장애의 비동시성의 모순을 종합하기 위해 장애인의 몸, 시간, 공간을 어떻게 재구성하는지 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 블로흐의 ‘비동시성의 동시성’, ‘변증법적 종합’ 개념을 적용해 김초엽의 SF단편소설을 살펴보았다. 김초엽의 SF서사는 소외된 존재들을 ‘지금-여기’에 있게 하는 비동시성의 변증법적 종합을 통해 새로운 사유의 차원으로 나아간다. SF서사에 나타나는 다른 몸들의 공존은 사랑과 불가해성의 통합을, 다른 시간들의 공존은 다른 삶의 방식과 속도에 대한 존중을, 다른 공간들의 공존은 새로운 감각과 아름다움의 창조를 이루어낸다. 또한 다른 몸, 시간, 공간의 얽힘은 낡은 영웅 신화를 뒤로하고 새로운 타자 신화의 수용으로 나아가게 한다. 이러한 변증법적 종합의 과정 가운데 비동시적인 몸, 시간, 공간, 그리고 다양한 정체성들이 서로 교차하며 충돌과 침식을 넘어 공존과 연대를 지향한다. 존재를 향한 다양한 상상력의 발휘와 장애가 있는 자신을 ‘그 자신이게 하는 힘’을 SF문학에서 확인하게 되는 것이다.

영문 초록

This study examines how the bodies, time, and space of people with disabilities are reconstructed in recent science fiction literature in order to expand positive thinking about ‘disability’ and to synthesize the contradiction of the non-simultaneity of a condition that both exists and does not exist. To this end, Kim Cho-yeop’s SF short stories are analyzed through the application of Ernst Bloch’s concepts of “the non-simultaneity of the simultaneous” and “dialectical synthesis.” Kim Cho-yeop’s SF narratives move toward a new dimension of thought through the dialectical synthesis of non-simultaneity, which allows marginalized beings to exist in the “here and now.” The coexistence of different bodies in these narratives enables the integration of love and incomprehensibility; the coexistence of different times fosters respect for diverse ways of life and paces; and the coexistence of different spaces leads to the creation of new sensations and aesthetics. Furthermore, the entanglement of diverse bodies, times, and spaces signals a departure from the old myth of the hero and a turn toward the acceptance of a new myth of the other. In the process of this dialectical synthesis, non-simultaneous bodies, times, spaces, and identities intersect and, beyond conflict and erosion, aim toward coexistence and solidarity. Through this, SF literature becomes a space where imaginative possibilities for being are exercised, and where people with disabilities are empowered with the capacity to become fully themselves.
