국문 초록

현재 동아시아 및 한반도를 둘러싼 안보환경 변동양상의 키워드는 ‘위험지대(Danger Zone) 진입’으로 요약할 수 있다. ‘위험지대(Danger Zone)’란 급상승하던 국력상승이 정점에 도달해 있는 중국이 공세적이고 급진적인 도발에 나설 가능성이 매우 높은 구간을 의미한다. 이러한 상황이 전개되는 가운데, 트럼프 집권 2기에는 미국의 대내외 정책에 매우 큰 변화가 예고되어 있다. 특히 대외정책에서 미국의 중국정책이 트럼프 집권 1기와 바이든 행정부 시기보다 더 큰 폭으로 변화할 것으로 전망된다. 본고는 트럼프 집권 2기 미중관계 변화를 첫째, 국제지정학적 접근, 둘째, 미중관계 변화에 대한 역사적 접근을 통해 식별해 보는 분석을 시도한다. 끝으로 미중관계 변화의 국제지정학적 함의가 한국에 주는 시사점을 도출한다.

영문 초록

The keyword encapsulating the shifting dynamics of the security environment surrounding East Asia and the Korean Peninsula at present can be summarized as the “entry into a Danger Zone.” The term “Danger Zone” refers to a phase in which China, having reached the zenith of its rapidly ascending national power, is highly likely to engage in aggressive and radical provocations. Amidst this unfolding scenario, the second term of the Trump administration is anticipated to usher in substantial changes in U.S. domestic and foreign policy. In particular, U.S. policy toward China is expected to undergo a more significant change against China compared to both the first Trump administration and the Biden administration. This paper attempts an analysis to identify the changes in U.S.-China relations during the second Trump administration through two approaches: first, an international geopolitical perspective, and second, a historical perspective on the evolution of U.S.-China relations. Finally, it derives the geopolitical implications of these changes in U.S.-China relations and their implications for Korea.
