국문 초록

Purpose - In August 2024, the Washington Post reported that Korea would recycle 98% of its food waste from households and restaurants, highlighting Korea as one of the few countries with a nationwide food waste management system. This study explores Korea’s food waste management experience by offering both theoretical and empirical analyses of the importance of food waste recycling. Design/Methodology - Data were collected through a survey conducted among members of the Korea Food Waste Recycling Machinery Association (KFRA). Overall, 151 survey responses were received during this period. 20 of these responses were incomplete, with several unanswered questions, leaving 131 valid responses. The analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on 131 valid survey responses. Findings - The empirical findings showed that a company’s social connectivity and regulatory environment encourage an increase in eco-friendly business activities such as adopting a green orientation. Additionally, the relationship between green orientation and firm performance is empirically supported. Originality/value - The food waste recycling industry can contribute significantly to combating climate change, particularly by reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This study examined eco-friendly practices, specifically the ‘green orientation,’ of companies involved in manufacturing and exporting food waste recycling machinery in Korea. We emphasize the global importance of segregating and recycling food waste as practiced in Korea. This approach not only ensures proper food waste processing but also maximizes recycling and reduces the carbon footprint, providing immense value for humanity. This underscores the importance of this study from both the industrial and environmental perspectives
