국문 초록

본 연구는 한국과 미국 초등 국어 교과서의 문학 단원 구성을 비교·분석하여 각국의 교육적 목표와 문화적 특성을 탐구하고, 문학 교육의 시사점을 도출하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 한국의 국정 교과서(미래엔)와 미국의 인정제 교과서(Harcourt Trophies)를 대상으로 질적 분석과 비교 연구 방법을 활용하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 한국 교과서는 국어 문화와 정체성 형성을 강조하며 전통 문학과 현대 문학을 균형 있게 포함하는 반면, 미국 교과서는 다문화적 요소와 실생활에서 활용 가능한 언어 능력을 강조하고 다양한 장르의 텍스트를 활용하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 한국 교과서는 교사 주도형 학습이 강한 반면, 미국 교과서는 자기주도적 학습과 탐구 활동을 강조하였다. 이러한 차이를 바탕으로 첫째, 교육의 균형적 접근이 필요하고 둘째, 문학 작품의 다양화가 요구되며 셋째, 자기주도적 학습과 명확한 목표 설정의 통합적 활용이 뒷받침되어야 하고 넷째, 글로벌 시민 의식과 정체성 교육의 조화를 강조할 필요가 있다는 시사점을 도출하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to compare and analyze the composition of literary units in Korean and American elementary language textbooks to explore each country's educational goals and cultural characteristics and derive implications for literature education. To achieve this, a qualitative analysis and comparative research method were applied to Korea’s national textbook (MiraeN) and the U.S. adopted textbook (Harcourt Trophies). The findings indicate that, first, the Korean textbook emphasizes the formation of linguistic culture and identity, balancing traditional and modern literature, whereas the American textbook highlights multicultural elements, practical language skills, and various literary genres. Second, the Korean textbook is largely teacher-centered, while the American textbook promotes self-directed learning and inquiry-based activities. Based on these differences, the study suggests that (1) a balanced educational approach is necessary, (2) diversification of literary works should be encouraged, (3) a combination of self-directed learning and clear goal setting should be implemented, and (4) a harmony between global citizenship education and identity formation should be emphasized.
