국문 초록

이 연구는 한국의 출생률 감소로 인한 대학 위기와 중국 산둥성 한국학의 현황을 분석하여 발전 방향을 모색하였다. 한국은 “벚꽃 피는 순서대로 대학이 망한다”는 현상으로 지방 대학들이 존폐 위기에 처해있으며, 한국학은 일제강점기 ‘조선학’에서 해방 후 ‘국학’, 분단 후 ‘한국학’으로 발전해왔다. 중국은 1992년 한중 수교 후 한국어학과가 급증했으나, 2015년 이후 한중 관계 악화, AI 번역 기술 발달, 취업난 등으로 많은 학과가 신입생 모집을 중단했다. 산둥성의 경우 31개 대학에서 22개 대학으로 약 60% 감소했다. 이러한 위기 극복을 위해 연구는 네 가지 전략을 제시했다: ① 한국어 능력과 정치·외교 등 전문지식을 겸비한 복합형 인재 양성, ② 타자적 시각의 한국학 연구와 체계적 데이터베이스 구축, ③ 창의적·실용적 한국학 프로그램 개발, ④ 전통적 언어학·문학 연구를 넘어선 교수진 연구 역량 확대이다. 특히 산둥 반도와 한국의 지리적 근접성을 활용한 역사 문화 자료 발굴과 문화 콘텐츠 개발을 강조하며, 한국학이 전문성과 대중성을 동시에 추구하는 창의적이고 실용적인 방향으로 발전해야 한다고 결론지었다.

영문 초록

This study examines the crisis facing Korean universities due to declining birth rates and explores the development direction of Korean Studies, particularly focusing on China’s Shandong Province. The research addresses the phenomenon where regional universities are closing “in the order that cherry blossoms bloom,” starting from southern regions distant from the capital area, leading to severe regional hollowing-out effects and social problems. The historical development of Korean Studies is traced from its origins as “Joseon Studies” during the Japanese colonial period in the early 20th century, evolving through “National Studies” after liberation and “Korean Studies” following national division. The recent Korean Wave (Hallyu) has significantly increased global interest in Korean culture, revitalizing Korean Studies research worldwide. In China, Korean language departments rapidly expanded after the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992. However, since 2015, deteriorating Korea-China relations and the advancement of AI translation technology have led many departments to suspend new student recruitment. Shandong Province experienced approximately 60% reduction, from 31 to 22 programs. To address these challenges, this study proposes four development strategies for Korean Studies in Shandong Province: (1) cultivating interdisciplinary talent combining Korean language proficiency with expertise in politics, diplomacy, and international relations; (2) conducting Korean Studies research from an “other’s perspective” and establishing comprehensive databases; (3) developing creative and practical Korean Studies programs; and (4) expanding faculty research capabilities beyond traditional linguistics and literature. The study emphasizes leveraging the geographical proximity between the Shandong Peninsula and Korea for historical-cultural resource excavation and cultural content development. It concludes that Korean Studies must simultaneously pursue academic rigor and popular appeal, evolving in creative and practical directions that meet contemporary societal demands while maintaining scholarly integrity.
