옥천 지역 산성의 현황과 과제

국문 초록

옥천 지역은 고대 백제와 신라의 격전지였던 곳으로서, 현재 삼국시대~고려시대에 축조되었던 것으로 추정되는 산성이 46기 분포하고 있다. 본고에서는 이러한 옥천 지역 산성들에 대한 조사 및 분포, 입지, 규모 등의 현황과 축성기술을 살펴보았다. 이러한 산성들의 현황과 축성기술을 분석한 결과, 옥천 지역의 산성들은 서화천을 경계로 동·서 지역이 차이를 보이고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 특히, GIS를 활용한 가시권 분석에서도 서화천을 사이에 두고양측의 산성들이 서로 대치하는 양상을 보이고 있는데, 이는 서화천을경계로 백제와 신라가 서로 대치하고 있었을 가능성을 시사하고 있다. 또한 그동안 고고학적 조사로 확인된 이성산성이나 옥천 금구리고분군에서 출토된 유물의 연대를 고려하면, 신라는 5세기 후반에는 이미 옥천 지역으로 진출하였던 것으로 판단된다. 한편, 옥천 지역의 산성들은 현재 많이 훼손된 상태이다. 앞으로 옥천 지역 산성의 실체와 역사를 올바르게 인식하기 위해서는 산성에대한 보존 조치와 주요 산성에 대한 학술조사 및 연구 계획을 수립해야 한다. 또한 산성의 정비와 복원, 나아가 활용 방안을 모색해야 할것이다. 그동안 이루어진 고고학적 조사들은 옥천 지역 산성에 대한 중요성과 역사적 가치를 재인식할 수 있는 계기를 마련해 주었다고 생각한다. 앞으로 보존과 학술조사 및 연구 등 다양한 노력을 통해 역사적실체를 규명할 수 있기를 바라며, 나아가 산성의 정비와 복원, 활용을통해 옥천이 역사와 문화의 도시로 발돋움할 수 있기를 바란다.

영문 초록

The Okcheon region served as a battleground between ancient Baekje(百濟) and Silla(新羅), hosting an estimated 46 mountain fortresses believed to have been constructed between the Three Kingdoms period and the Goryeo dynasty. Thus, this study examined the current status, distribution, location, size, and construction techniques of these mountain fortresses in the Okcheon region. Through an analysis of the status and construction techniques of these fortresses, it was observed that the mountain fortresses in the Okcheon region show differences between the eastern and western areas, divided by the Seohwacheon stream. Particularly, GIS-based visibility analysis also indicates a confrontational pattern, where mountain fortresses on either side of the Seohwacheon stream seemingly confront each other, suggesting the possibility of Baekje and Silla facing off across this boundary. Furthermore, considering the chronology of artifacts excavated from sites like Iseong-mountain fortresse(已城⼭ 城) and Okcheon Geumguli-old burial mounds, it is deduced that Silla had already expanded into the Okcheon region by the late 5th century. However, the mountain fortresses in the Okcheon region are currently heavily damaged. To accurately understand the reality and history of Okcheon's mountain fortresses, it is necessary to establish conservation measures, conduct academic investigations, and plan research for the major mountain fortresses. Additionally, efforts should be made towards the restoration, maintenance, and exploration of utilization methods for these mountain fortresses. Archaeological studies conducted thus far have provided an opportunity to reevaluate the significance and historical value of the mountain fortresses in the Okcheon region. I believe they've paved the way for a renewed recognition of the importance of these mountain fortresses. I hope that through future efforts in conservation, scholarly investigation, and research, we can further elucidate the historical reality. Moreover, I aspire that through initiatives aimed at restoration and utilization, Okcheon can emerge as a city steeped in history and culture.
