국문 초록

본 연구의 목표는 LA 올림픽이라는 스포츠 이벤트를 통해, 식민지 조선인과 재미동포가 선보였던 국제 교류의 경험 및 세계적 역량을 검토하는 것이다. 이를 통해 2000년대 이후의 현상으로 이해되어 왔던 범세계적 스포츠/팬덤의 역사를 전지구적 연락망·교통망이 확보되었던 근대 시기에까지 소급되는 것으로 확대하고자 한다. 이 글에서 주목하는 제10회 LA 올림픽(1932.7.30~8.14)의 경우, 한반도 선수들이 출전했던 중요한 초국적 이벤트이자, 범세계와 조우했던 스포츠 생산자/소비자들의 다양한 경험이 서사화되었다는 측면에서 한국 스포츠 문화에 대한 역사적 연구를 다각화하기 위한 주요 기점으로 자리한다. 이 글에서는 LA 올림픽에 출전했던 복싱 선수 황을수(黃乙秀), 마라톤 선수 김은배(金恩培)·권태하(權泰夏)의 기행문 및 스포츠 평론, 팬덤 취재를 비롯한 신문기사들을 발굴하여 스포츠 팬덤 서사를 둘러싼 텍스트들을 목록화하고 제국 일본의 언론 보도와 비교했다. 아울러 이 글에서는 스포츠 미디어·선수 및 한반도·LA 현지에 위치한 관객·팬들의 교류 경험에 초점을 맞추어, 민족주의와 세계성을 아우르는 문화정치적 맥락에 관한 분석을 수행했다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 국가·민족·인종 정체성에 제한되지 않는 스포츠의 특성이 한반도와 재미동포 사회를 오가며 발현되는 양상을 검토했다.

영문 초록

The goal of this study is to examine the experiences of international exchange and global capabilities demonstrated by Koreans on the Korean Peninsula and Korean-Americans through the transnational/amateur sports event called the LA Olympics. Through this, this study aim to expand the history of global sports /fandom, which has been understood as a phenomenon since the 2000s, to date back to the modern era when global communication and transportation networks were secured. In the case of the 10th LA Olympics (July 30-August 14, 1932), which is the focus of this article, sports research is conducted in that it was an important transnational event in which athletes from the Korean peninsula participated, and the diverse experiences of sports producers/consumers who encountered the world were narrated. In this article, I excavated newspaper articles, including travel writings, sports criticism, and fandom coverage of boxer Hwang Eulsoo (黃乙秀) and marathon runners Kim Eunbae (金恩培) and Kwon Taeha (權泰夏), who participated in the LA Olympics, and analyzed the texts surrounding the narrative of sports fandom. They were cataloged and compared with media reports from Imperial Japan. In addition, this article focused on the interaction experiences of sports media, athletes, and audiences and fans located on the Korean Peninsula and in LA, and conducted an analysis of the cultural and political context encompassing nationalism and globality. Through this, this study examined the ways in which the characteristics of sports, which are not limited to national, ethnic, or racial identity, are expressed across the Korean Peninsula and Korean-American society.
